O’ma Spoon is a Korean dessert chain that specialises in bingsu. Bingsu is a Korean dessert traditionally made with shaved ice and a variety of different toppings including red beans, fruit, ice cream, syrup etc. but the bingsu in O’ma Spoon is made with deliciously creamy shaved milk ice. They have several different types of bingsu – Choco Brownie (American brownies, ice-cream, bananas, Oreos, almonds), Injeolmi (soybean powder, rice cakes, almonds), Mango Berry Cheesecake (fresh mango, fresh blueberries, New York cheesecake, ice-cream, almonds), Patbingsu (red beans, rice cakes, soybean powder, almonds), Green Tea (ice-cream, green tea, red beans, almonds) and Mixed Berry (fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, ice-cream, almonds). These are all around $18.90 but they are humongous and are enough for 2-3 people. They also have smaller bingsu portions available for 1 person but they only come with Injeolmi, Pat red bean, Orean and mango toppings so it’s best to go with a friend or two and share one of the bigger more extravagant ones! ?

Besides bingsu they also have different types of Honey Butter Bread (another popular dessert in Korea) available on their menu. You can have it with chocolate and strawberries, matcha green tea or chocolate and bananas and they all come with ice-cream. They also have normal toast with sweet as well as savory toppings and if you’re thirsty there is a good selection of tea, coffee and soft drinks.

I’ve been to O’ma Spoon a couple of times – to the branch in Marina Square shopping centre near City Hall MRT as well as the branch in Somerset 313 shopping centre joined to Somerset MRT. Both branches are fairly spacious, the branch in Somerset 313 has more tables available whereas the seating in the branch in Marina Square is more spaced out and it doesn’t get as busy as the O’ma Spoon in Somerset. I’ve had both the Injeolmi Bingsu and Patbingsu before with the Injeolmi being my favourite.

Injeolmi Bingsu

The Injeolmi Bingsu comes with a very generous amount of soybean powder, rice cakes and nuts and it goes brilliantly with the sweet shaved milk ice. They also give you a small glass of condensed milk which you can pour on top of the bingsu if you prefer it to be sweeter. The Patbingsu is pretty much the same as the Injeolmi Bingsu except there is less soybean powder and it comes with sweet red beans too.

So if you haven’t already had Korean bingsu I really urge you to try it, it’s soooo good! It’s very light and refreshing and not too heavy unless you go for the ones with cheesecake or brownies. It’s a little bit like the Singaporean Ice Kacang dessert but personally I think it’s much better.
