Yoogane Korean Restaurant Review - Westgate Jurong East Singapore

This restaurant has got to be one of my favourite Korean restaurants in Singapore, in fact probably one of my favourite restaurants here! It serves mouth-watering chicken galbi (grilled chicken) and is one of the most successful chicken galbi restaurant chains in Korea.

The menu consists of a variety of types of chicken galbi in different marinades and together with seafood too, toppings that you can add to your chicken galbi such as noodles, vegetables or rice, different types of cheese fried rice, typical Korean side dishes including Korean pancake and Japchae (sweet potato noodles stir fried with vegetables and meat) and a drinks menu that includes several types of Korean alcoholic beverages as well as Korean tea.

The branch of Yoogane in Westgate, one of three branches in Singapore, is very spacious with each table in it’s own booth to give you plenty of room to dine in. Each table has it’s own grill to cook the chicken galbi on and you have to place your order outside before being seated. There is a minimum order of two portions of the same type of chicken galbi per table unless you get the Cheese Chicken Galbi which is enough for 2-3 portions.

The Cheese Chicken Galbi looks so tempting on the menu that it’s practically impossible to resist with it’s river of cheddar cheese surrounding the chicken galbi for you to dip the chicken pieces into. The chicken galbi comes with rice cakes, sweet potato rice cakes, slices of potato, onions and spring onions. All the ingredients for the dish are brought to your table raw and then cooked on the grill by the servers in front of you.

Cooking takes around 10-15 minutes and then your chicken is ready to dip into the sumptuous melted cheese. We got a topping of sticky noodles which are noodles made from potato and have a sticky, chewy texture and this was added to the chicken galbi near the end when the chicken was cooked. The chicken was juicy and tender and was delicious in the spicy, sweet sauce that it came with, the rice cakes were soft and chewy, the sweet potato rice cakes were even better with their very soft texture and sweet filling and everything was even more yummy dipped in the cheese. I really liked the sticky noodles and it went really well with everything.

The portion of Cheese Chicken Galbi that they give you is huge so if you can’t finish then you can ask for a takeaway container to pack your leftovers in.

There is also a small salad bar in the restaurant where you can help yourself to as much salad, kimchi and pickles as you want.

Service at the restaurant is efficient and there is a cutlery drawer at each table which is quite handy as you don’t have to call a server if you need an extra spoon or tissues.

Everything that I’ve tried so far in Yoogane is good, from the kimchi in the salad bar to their chicken galbi and this restaurant is definitely my go-to place now for Korean chicken galbi when I get a craving for it and believe me you will definitely be craving for more!
