Bangkok Jam Restaurant Review Plaza Singapura Singapore

Bangkok Jam is a Thai restaurant chain in Singapore with branches mostly in central Singapore as well as over in the west side in Jurong. I’d been wanting to try out the food there so after seeing a great offer on Fave for a $25 voucher for only $10, I bought two $25 vouchers and took my hubby for dinner at the Plaza Singapura branch last week.

They have a fairly big menu of starters, soups, salads, curries, desserts, meat, seafood, vegetable, rice and noodle dishes as well as a small selection of main courses for vegetarians. We decided to get a Massaman Curry with Beef ($16.50), Jasmine Rice ($1.50), Stir Fried Spicy Kway Teow with New Zealand Beef and Holy Basil ($13.90), Thai Milk Tea ($4.90) and a Pandan Pancake with Coconut Ice Cream ($8.50) for dessert. We were given an iPad to place our orders and literally a minute after we had placed our order we were given our Thai Milk Tea.

The food came out very quickly too, first with the Massaman Curry with Beef and Jasmine Rice followed by the Stir Fried Spicy Kway Teow with New Zealand Beef and Holy Basil. The Massaman Curry with Beef was quite good, it had four large pieces of tender braised beef in it together with pieces of carrot and potato and the curry was quite flavourful, slightly sour and not too spicy.

The highlight of the meal though was definitely the Stir Fried Spicy Kway Teow with New Zealand Beef and Holy Basil. It’s one of my favourite Thai noodle dishes and was almost as good as what I’ve had in Bangkok. The wide kway teow noodles were soft and chewy, the beef was tender and the sauce was slightly sweet, sour and spicy. Delicious!

The Pandan Pancake with Coconut Ice Cream dessert however was very disappointing. It looked very appealing on the menu but unfortunately the pancakes were thick and hard as if they’d been cooked in advance and then microwaved and they didn’t taste of pandan much either. They were sprinkled with desiccated coconut and lumps of palm sugar and honey was also given on the side. The coconut ice cream was ok, fairly creamy with a good coconut flavour.

Overall, apart from the dessert, we really enjoyed the meal at Bangkok Jam. The noodles were so good that this dish alone will get me back there for more. Service was efficient and polite however the only complaint is that I had requested a quiet table that was not too close to other tables (one of my pet peeves!) when I had reserved my table online using Quandoo and guess where I was sat.. inches away from another couple 🙁 The deal on Fave however is too good to pass up, the total of our bill was $53.32 including service and tax and we were able to use both $25 vouchers purchased on Fave so we only had to pay an extra $3.32!
