Hyde & Co Cafe Review – Bugis Singapore

Hyde & Co is a cute little cafe / restaurant around 10 minutes walk from Bugis MRT which I went to last week for lunch. The brunch menu which is supposedly inspired by British food with a touch of local has a nice selection of mains, salads, plates for sharing and pancakes and waffles. Their Butterscotch Popcorn Waffle is something I had heard great things about and had been wanting to try so my friend and I ordered one to share as well as their Chili Crab Pasta.

The Chili Crab Pasta was mediocre, I hadn’t really expected much as I’d heard the pasta there wasn’t anything special. The chili crab sauce itself was quite tasty and slightly spicy although it was perhaps a little too salty. The amount of crab given was generous but the pasta was soft and overcooked which unfortunately ruined the overall dish.

The Butterscotch Popcorn Waffle on the other hand met every preconceived expectation of mine. The homemade butterscotch sauce was to die for, the popcorn was lightly seasoned and crunchy and the banana slices and creamy vanilla bean ice cream went well with it all.

I will definitely be back there again for the waffles, they have a Pulut Hitam waffle that sounds intriguing and I’d like to try some of their other brunch items. They serve Toad In The Hole there but according to their menu it’s an egg on toast with mushroom, cheddar and tomato sauce?? Hmm very strange Toad In The Hole indeed! Not like any I’ve ever had in England! They also have a dinner menu where I’d been interested to try their Nasi Lemak Risotto.

The service in Hyde & Co is very efficient, the staff are friendly and food was served very quickly. It was a weekday when we went so it was pretty quiet but I expect it’s a lot busier on weekends. They don’t charge GST or service charge so make sure to remember to leave a tip!

I love the sign that they have on their wall saying “You Can’t Buy Happiness But You Can Buy Tea, And That’s Kind Of The Same Thing” – so true!! ☕ 🙂
