This has always been one of my favourite restaurants to get my garlic or Italian fix, they used to have a branch in Clarke Quay which closed last year and their branch in Suntec City shopping mall was located on a different floor before but was closed due to renovation of the mall. Since it reopened I hadn’t had the chance to go but after seeing a great deal on Fave for a $30 cash voucher for only $15 which could be used for food and drinks, I decided to pay it a visit earlier this week.
The interior of the restaurant has changed somewhat, it is sleek and classy all in black and white rather than the gothic medieval style décor that it formerly had. The restaurant was already pretty full for 6.30pm on a Monday night (I expect most people had purchased the same Groupon deal) and most of the comfy booth tables were already occupied.
Mad For Garlic is a restaurant chain from Korea that specialises in Italian food loaded with tons of garlic, hence the name. The food is heavenly if you love garlic but just make sure you keep a pack of mints on hand for after 😉 They have a menu that consists of pizzas, pastas, rice and risotto dishes, steak, starters and desserts. My favourite dishes there are the Arrabbiata Pasta, Garlic Snowing Pizza and the Garlicholic Rice but since there was just the two of us eating, we decided on the Arrabbiata Pasta ($18.50) and Garlic Snowing Pizza ($22.50).
The quality of the food hasn’t changed at all since I last ate there, everything was just as good as I remember it to be and extremely tasty. The spaghetti in the Arrabbiata Pasta was just about cooked al dente, the spicy tomato arrabbiata sauce was thick and rich and there was plenty of it mixed together with pieces of bacon and juicy cherry tomatoes. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
The Garlic Snowing Pizza had a slightly sweet sauce that went perfectly with the generous amount of prawns, pineapple pieces and fried slices of garlic on it. The pizza base was thin and crunchy, just how I like it and fresh parmesan was grated on top at the table.
The main courses are pretty big so you should be quite full afterwards but I was definitely very tempted to try their Red Velvet Cheesecake. Never mind, there’s always next time!
Service at Mad For Garlic is efficient but pretty lacklustre. Anyway the food is what I go there for, I just wish they did food delivery again (they used to be on FoodPanda but unfortunately not any more)!
