Montana Singapore Cafe Review PoMo Dhoby Ghaut

Apart from Plaza Singapura, I rarely go to other shopping centres in Dhoby Ghaut but if you venture a bit further east you’ll find PoMo shopping mall which houses this hidden gem of a cafe, Montana. Formally known as Montana Brew Bar and now as just Montana, they serve all day brunch, pasta, burgers, a huge range of savoury and sweet waffles as well some delicious looking cakes. I mean how friggin’ good does this look!

They also have a selection of coffees, teas, craft beers and ciders. They are the world’s first specialists in coconut cold brew coffees where they steep ground coffee in coconut water. I tried their Regular Coconut Cold Brew Coffee ($6.80) which was served ice cold with a coconut ice sphere. The flavour of the coffee was light with a hint of sweetness from the coconut and very refreshing.

As mac and cheese is my ultimate comfort food and their Mac & Cheese Waffle ($13.80) is their signature waffle, I had this and hubby went for a good ol’ burger called The Bronx ($16.50).

The waffle was pretty good, crispy and buttery, but where was the mac and cheese?! I was expecting mac and cheese to be oozing out but unfortunately I only found remnants of macaroni with barely any cheese. It was more like eating a plain waffle unfortunately with a tiny little pot of curried tomato relish on the side. There was also no sign of any jalapeno as mentioned on the menu and I caught a whiff of truffle oil when it was first served but other than that it didn’t taste of truffle either. Apart from that it was tasty but slightly disappointing.

Hubby seemed to enjoy his burger though, which had a beef patty, bacon, a smidgen of gruyere cheese and sauce served inside a soft bun. There was no arugula though as there was supposed to be and instead he got an egg and some coleslaw.

Overall the meal was ok, we were full afterwards so didn’t manage to fit in any of the cakes which I’d love to go back to try as well as perhaps their dessert waffles which also look very good. Service at Montana was very efficient when we first arrived but after that it was a little hard to catch the attention of a server. If you go early when Montana first opens or during off-peak times then it’s fairly quiet and you can easily get a table otherwise they take reservations via Chope. Also if you join Shopback and book your table through them via HungryGoWhere, then you can get $3.50 cashback!
