Sofitel So Singapore Xperience Restaurant High Tea Review

Sofitel So Xperience Restaurant Singapore

The high tea in the Xperience Restaurant in the Sofitel So hotel was possibly the worst afternoon tea that I’ve had so far in Singapore. Recently Fave have been having an offer for a high-tea semi-buffet there for only $28.50, so my friend and I went there yesterday to take advantage of this great offer, or so we thought… However, it is definitely NOT a buffet, there isn’t a buffet area and there was no mention about it from the staff either. The food we were given wasn’t particularly good so we didn’t really feel the need to enquire about it too.

On arrival we were asked what tea we would like. The high tea includes one pot of tea and according to the waiter they only have three different types – English breakfast, Darjeeling and mint tea. I requested the mint tea as I’d already had a lot of caffeine that day but I was instead presented with green tea! We were then given a 3-tier stand of sandwiches and cakes together with some dim sum. It was a lot different from what we’d expected from the photo on Groupon.

What we actually received:

The 3-tier stand had some tomato and egg mayo sandwiches as well as some eclairs, macarons, cheesecake and mini sponge cakes. The sandwiches were dry as if they’d been prepared hours ago and the eclairs, macarons and cakes were overly sweet and nothing to shout about. The dim sum included some fried wontons, har gau (prawn dumplings), siu mai (pork and prawn dumplings), steamed char siu buns and fried chicken wings with sweet chilli sauce and soy sauce on the side. The fried wontons and chicken wings were ok, a little oily but the steamed dim sum were not very nice at all and didn’t taste very fresh. Very disappointing…

The restaurant itself is nicely decorated and it was quiet whilst we were there except for a couple of other tables having afternoon tea and a few business people having coffee. The service was ok, they pretty much left us to ourselves after serving the food. Unfortunately though I won’t be going back…
