One of the most well known and popular bakeries in the Tiong Bahru area, this cosy bakery and café welcomes you with the smell of freshly baked bread and pastries. Constantly bustling with people stopping for their morning coffee and croissant or for an afternoon sweet treat, this self-service café offers a variety of traditional French pastries, cakes, cookies, tarts, bread, sandwiches and quiches. They also have a branch on Orchard Road and one near City Hall MRT which has a more extensive savoury menu.

They have a good choice of different coffees, teas and juices available too.

On my visit there last week, I had a latte which was quite nice, fairly strong and not too milky and I had an Apple Kouign Amann. If you’ve never had one before it has a texture similar to a croissant or puff pastry and is caramelised with sugar. There wasn’t a lot of apple in it but it was delicious nonetheless.

I also got a takeaway of their Pandan Flan and Lime & Basil Tart. The Pandan Flan was really good, it had a strong flavour of pandan and had a very smooth texture. The Lime & Basil Tart was ok but the flavours weren’t very well balanced. The lime was very sour and the basil flavour was a bit too overpowering.

Service at the branch in Tiong Bahru is efficient but I wouldn’t say friendly. They have a counter too where you can help yourself to jams, butter, sugar and water.

They offer a stamp card where you get 1 point for every 10 dollars that you spend. Once you’ve collected 5 stamps, you can redeem your card for a free croissant, Kouign Amann, coffee or tea. It’s nice that they have this as you don’t often see stamp cards around in Singapore. I’m sure I’ll be back soon to rack up some more points 🙂
