Angie’s Oyster Bar Review – Raffles Place Singapore

Located on the 45th floor of the Singapore Land Tower with gorgeous views of Marina Bay, Angie’s Oyster Bar’s amazingly cheap $1 happy hour oysters is what initially attracted me to the place. With a table booked via Chope for 6pm, my friend and I were given a lovely table outside.

The happy hour oysters is from 6pm to 8pm daily where you can get Fine de Claire oysters from France (size 4) for $1++ each or you can opt for a bigger size or different type of oyster for a bit more.

We started off with a dozen Fine de Claire oysters, the size 4 ones, which were actually not too small, as well as a couple of glasses of prosecco which were also at happy hour prices for $10 a glass.

The deliciously fresh oysters came out promptly served on ice with wedges of lemon and vinegar together with our glasses of ice cold prosecco. The prosecco was good – crisp and dry and the second glasses that we ordered after of the happy hour rose prosecco were also nice and surprisingly not sweet.

After a couple more dozen Fine de Claire oysters we decided to have a look at the menu for something a bit more substantial to eat. The menu consists of mostly seafood with a selection of starters, sharing platters, bowls of mussels and clams, lobster, fish and a couple of desserts.

We decided to go for the Truffle Mac & Cheese ($22) as well as have a beer paddle each of five different types of beer ($20). For the beer paddle we were able to select from twelve different types of beer they have available on tap ranging from the very bitter Lervig Konrad’s Imperial Stout from Norway to easy to drink Hite lager from Korea. Each glass is 150ml so a paddle of five glasses is around 1 1/2 pints. If that’s too much you can always opt for a paddle of three beers for $15.

The Truffle Mac & Cheese was pure comfort food, topped with crunchy breadcrumbs it was cheesy and filling, good for soaking up all the alcohol ? There wasn’t much of a truffle flavour however and just a couple of button mushrooms dotted around.

For my beer paddle I chose to have Lervig Konrad’s Imperial Stout, Lervig Passion Tang Passionfruit Sour Ale, Lucky Jack Pale Ale, Lervig Orange Velvet and Hofbräu München Hefeweizen with Lervig Konrad’s Imperial Stout and Lucky Jack Pale Ale being my joint favourite and Lervig Passion Tang Passionfruit Sour Ale being my least favourite.

Overall I had a very enjoyable meal and drinks at Angie’s, it was pretty good value for money and the service was attentive and polite. The place has a great ambience too and you’d be hard pressed to find such a good view with these kind of prices in Singapore. It’s a great place for drinks after work, a romantic dinner or you could even bring the kids, as I did notice a couple of dirty looks being shot at me for being a wee bit too tipsy by the 10 year old at the table nearby ?
