Marché Mövenpick Restaurant Review – 313@Somerset Singapore

Marché Mövenpick is a self-service restaurant chain from Switzerland with branches all over the world including five in Singapore. Their restaurant in 313@Somerset shopping centre is huge and serves a large variety of made-to-order dishes including pasta, pizza, grilled meat, seafood, vegetables, paella, rosti as well as freshly baked bread and sweet treats plus a lot more! The restaurant has a market feel as all the raw ingredients are displayed at each food counter and they pride themselves on freshness and quality.

They have a good selection of wine, beer, fresh juices, soft drinks, coffee and tea too.

When you first enter the restaurant you’re given a card which you have to hand in to each food counter that you order food from so that your order can be recorded on it and then payment is made at the cashier when you leave the restaurant. It’s an efficient way of paying but just be careful that you don’t lose your card as there’s a $100 penalty!

You can sit wherever you like in the restaurant and the 313@Somerset branch is very spacious so there’s a lot of seating choice and big tables for large groups too. Once you’ve selected a table you can reserve it or “chope” it as the Singaporeans say by changing the sign on the table to show that it’s reserved. Marché Mövenpick also take reservations in advance daily before 7pm incase you want to guarantee that you get a table. It’s a very popular restaurant but you should be able to get a table if you go early or during off-peak times. Lunch and dinner time is very busy though so expect long queues!

I was there for Sunday brunch last week and went early around the opening time which was nice and quiet. My friend and I got a rosti with cheddar cheese ($7.90 for a plain rosti, $3.90 for cheddar cheese), plate of mixed vegetables ($10.90 for a medium sized plate), a strawberry cake ($6.90) and a latte each ($4.90). They were having a Christmas promotion on that day for buy 1 get 1 free coffees so 2 lattes for $4.90 was a really good deal.

The rosti was delicious and crispy and great with the sour cream that came with it. The cheddar cheese was melted and oozy but there wasn’t a lot of it and was not really worth the extra $3.90 that we paid.

For the mixed vegetables, you can get either a small, medium or large portion. The small size is just a tiny little bowl so we decided to get the medium size where you’re given a small plate. The vegetables are self-service so you can choose what you like from a selection of potatoes, brussel sprouts, shitake mushrooms, carrots, courgettes, etc. and load up your plate with as much as it can hold. Our plate managed to hold a fair amount of vegetables so it was well worth it. The potatoes were pan fried with butter, salt and herbs and were really tasty. The brussel sprouts were nice, also pan fried in butter and salt but they were slightly undercooked. The shitake mushrooms were good too and were pan fried with vinegar so it had a slightly pickled taste.

The strawberry cake, although it had a lot of strawberries on it, was not very nice. The sponge was very dry and almost bread-like. The latte was ok and quite strong.

Overall the food in Marché Mövenpick is pretty good, I really enjoyed the rosti and vegetables and will definitely be back to try some of their dinner items. It’s a good place to go with a big group of friends or family as there’s a lot of food choice so there’s something for everyone or you could go on your own as it has a very informal, comfortable atmosphere.

The branch in 313@Somerset has a bakery at the front selling freshly made bread, pastries, cakes and sandwiches and you can even watch the chefs make the bread there.

They regularly have promotions too so check their website for updates. They’re currently having one where you can get a coffee and piece of cake for $6.90 on Mondays to Fridays from 3pm to 6pm.
