Aloha Poke Restaurant Singapore

Aloha Poke is a great little place near Telok Ayer and Raffles Place MRT that specialise in Hawaiian Poke. Poke is basically like a sashimi salad and is usually made with raw tuna but at Aloha Poke you also have the option of selecting either salmon or tofu.

It’s a small place which only seats around 25 people with some 4 seater tables at the back and some seating at the side so it’s not the kind of place where you’d bring a large group of people but it’s perfect for people working around the CBD who want to stop by and have a quick and healthy lunch or bring it back to the office.

On entering the restaurant, you’re given an order form where you can select which size poke you would like (choice of 75g, 150g or 225g of poke), what kind of rice you would like as the base (choice of white rice, brown rice, mixed rice or salad only), whether you would like tuna, salmon or tofu poke and what flavour poke you would like. The tuna and salmon poke both come in original, wasabi mayo and spicy flavour and the tofu only comes in one flavour which is nutty sesame flavour. Next you can choose two complimentary add-ons from a choice of carrot, cucumber, jalapenos, cherry tomatoes, edamame, almond, flying fish roe, walnut, dried grapes, pumpkin seeds, golden raisins and an option that changes seasonally. If you want more than 2 add-ons you can always top up 50 cents for each additional one. You can then choose a complimentary superfood from avocado, chia seeds, pomegranate and quail egg and any additional superfood toppings are $1 each. Kale can also be added to your salad for an extra $1.

If you’re having trouble choosing what you would like from all the options or if you’re in a rush then you can just select the option for them to make the perfect poke bowl for you, all you need to do is decide whether you want salmon or tuna poke. It only comes in one size which is the standard size for $15.90.

Aloha Poke Restaurant Kona Beer

Aloha Poke also have drinks available for purchase including fresh coconut juice which is a little on the expensive side at $5.90 for a small bottle, still or sparkling water and also a few types of Hawaiian Kona beer and British cider. They provide free ice-cold fruit infused water though which you can help yourself to and is deliciously refreshing.

I went there last Saturday for a light lunch before the gym and after placing my order at the till my food was brought to me within minutes of sitting down. I had a small portion (called the Lil’ Swell) of spicy salmon poke with salad, edamame, flying fish roe and avocado. The spicy salmon poke was tasty with a good balance of soy sauce flavour and sesame oil and it wasn’t that spicy although it said on the menu that it would be but then again I have quite a high tolerance for spicyness 🙂 They gave a decent amount of avocado, edamame and flying fish roe and all poke bowls are topped off with scallions, pineapple and lime. The sweetness of the pineapple complemented the poke well and I think my lime was missing but I wasn’t too bothered as my poke was delicious without. My friend had a wasabi mayo tuna poke which she thought was good except that the wasabi flavour was quite mild.

Aloha Poke Restaurant Salmon and Tuna Poke Bowls

I will definitely be back here again to try another poke bowl, they also turn into a tiki bar at night from 5.30pm onwards so it would be nice to pop by for a drink too. Staff at Aloha Poke are friendly and efficient and they were very helpful in explaining how to choose our poke bowl when we first arrived. Also if you’re in a rush during your lunch break, Aloha Poke take advance orders up to 3pm the day before for a minimum of 3 bowls. You just have to download the order form from their website and email it to them and it will be ready for you to pick up at 11.30am.
