Aura Sky Lounge National Gallery

The Aura Sky Lounge is on the sixth floor rooftop above Aura restaurant in the newly opened National Gallery near City Hall MRT with a great view looking over the Marina Bay area and Esplanade.

Usually a bar at night, it also has a daily weekday “Salad Bar” salad buffet and serves brunch on weekends. It has a capacity to sit 200 people with tables both indoors and outside. The interior of the sky lounge is stylishly decorated – quite befitting for an art gallery bar. It’s brightly lit with lots of natural light from the floor-to-ceiling windows too.

I went there last Thursday for their lunchtime Salad Bar which is a buffet of roasted vegetables, salads and homemade bread with flavours from the Mediterranean region which changes daily. On that day there was a good selection of around 11 different dishes including Pasta with Asparagus Risotto, Roasted Endives with Yogurt Dressing and Pomegranate, Potato Salad with Apple, Frittata with Smoked Cheese and Caramalised Onions, Roasted Radicchio and Broccoli Salad, Spinach Salad, Cannellini Beans Salad, Cod Mousse, Grilled Watermelon with Cucumber and Capers, Roasted Mushroom with Corn, Cauliflower Gratin and Couscous with Tuna, as well as a few different types of bread. You can also help yourself to cold, warm or room temperature water.

I tried most of the salads except for the Cod Mousse and Couscous with Tuna as I didn’t really fancy having any fish that day and everything I tried was tasty and very filling – I only managed 2 small plates of food in the end. I particularly liked the Potato Salad with Apple, Roasted Radicchio and Broccoli, Roasted Mushroom with Corn Salad and the Grilled Watermelon with Cucumber and Capers was probably my favourite. The watermelon was refreshing and sweet and went well with the saltiness of the capers. I was too full to try any of the bread unfortunately.

Aura Sky Lounge also has a nice selection of freshly made juices available. I had a juice blend called Beauty Tonic which has strawberries, goji berries, red grapes and lemon in it and it’s supposed to be good for the skin and anti-ageing.

Service at the Aura Sky Lounge is polite and attentive and the place itself has a nice relaxed ambiance and wasn’t very busy when I was there – it’s the perfect place to have a nice long lunch. The Salad Bar is only $18 for 3 hours starting at 11.30am on weekdays. I’ll definitely go back there again if I’m around the area or when I get the chance to visit the National Gallery itself.
