Magosaburo Japanese Restaurant Review Ion Orchard Singapore

Magosaburo is a high-end Japanese restaurant in Ion shopping centre on Orchard Road that specialises in Japanese wagyu beef. Prices for dinner are on average around $200-$300 per person but they have a very affordable daily lunch menu with prices starting at just $12.80.

I went there on a Monday during lunchtime having a reserved a table through Chope, the entrance to the restaurant is on the fourth floor of Ion and you have to walk through the passageway and go up the stairs to the fifth floor where the restaurant is.

The restaurant was surprisingly very quiet apart from one other table that was occupied and we were given a table by the window overlooking Orchard Road.

They have a lunch menu called the “Affordable Lunch Set” which has several different lunch sets available and include a salad, main, soup, dessert and green tea, as well as a “Delectable Value BBQ Lunch” menu if you wish to eat some BBQ wagyu which you can cook on the grill on the table. They also have some lunch set menus starting at $58 for 7 courses. As we were there for a quick lunch, I went for the Well Stewed Wagyu in Bread Bowl ($17.80) and my friend went for the Chef’s Special Menu of the Week ($17.80) which was a Wagyu Donburi (wagyu beef on rice).

We started off with the salad which was a little tired looking but nice with the citrusy Japanese salad dressing and soon after our mains came out together with the soup.

The Well Stewed Wagyu in Bread Bowl was very tasty, the beef was tender although there wasn’t a lot of it and it was covered with mashed potato and cheddar cheese inside the bread bowl. The bread itself was light and crusty and the sauce was nice but quite vinegary and there wasn’t enough of it to go with the bread. The soup that came with it was a radish soup which was delicious.

My friend’s Wagyu Donburi was also very tasty, the slices of beef were tender and stewed in a sweet sauce served on top of perfectly cooked Japanese rice with a hint of truffle oil. It came together with miso soup.

For dessert we were given a panna cotta with a dollop of berry jam on top. It was creamy and quite firm for a panna cotta but it was a nice sweet ending to a lovely meal.

I really like Magosaboro, the restaurant itself is really nice, it’s bright and airy with huge glass windows. The layout of the restaurant is good with tables facing the window as well as comfortable booths. They also have private rooms which can cater for groups of 10-20 people with set menus starting at $58++ per person or a buffet starting at $29.80++ per person. Service at Magosaboro is ok, not as polished as what you would expect at such an establishment but it was polite. I will definitely venture back there for dinner some time once I’ve saved up a penny or two 🙂
