Dutch Baby Cafe Review Paragon Singapore

Opened last year by F&B group Japan Foods Holding, Dutch Baby Cafe serves both Dutch baby pancakes as well as Japanese-Western favourites. They have a variety of sweet and savoury Dutch baby pancakes, dishes including Japanese pork cutlet and omurice if you’re looking for a more substantial meal, an assortment of fresh fruit tarts made daily in-house as well as coffee, tea and fresh juices.

Orders are placed on the touch screen menu available at each table and if your order is one of the Japanese-Western meals then it should come out fairly quickly but Dutch baby pancake orders will take around twenty minutes to make.

On a recent visit there, my friend and I ordered the Lemon Chicken Baked Cheese Rice ($13.80) and the Caramel Apple Dutch Baby Pancake ($12.80) to share. The Lemon Chicken Baked Cheese Rice came out first in a cute cast iron skillet. It’s quite a carb-heavy meal with both rice and fries but you get a fair amount of chicken breast which was surprisingly tender and tasty with the melted cheese and seasoned rice. Not much taste of lemon though. The fries were really good, crunchy and not too oily and the meal came with a small side salad.

If you’ve never had a Dutch baby pancake, it’s a type of pancake derived from a German pancake which is baked in a cast iron pan. The Caramel Apple Dutch Baby Pancake was deliciously good. The sides of the pancake were crispy and the soft centre was topped with slightly stewed crunchy apple slices, toasted almond flakes and a huge scoop of smooth and creamy vanilla ice-cream with everything drizzled in luscious caramel sauce and sprinkled with icing sugar. Heaven for the taste buds!

I will definitely go back to Dutch Baby Cafe soon to try more of their sweet treats. The place itself is cute and cozy with spacious booth tables which you can probably get if you go during off-peak times when it’s not too busy. Service is efficient and it’s a good place to go for a meal or just to stop by for a drink and dessert after shopping on Orchard Road.
