Ice Lab Cafe Review – Korean Dessert – Somerset Singapore

Ice Lab Korean Dessert Cafe Singapore

Ice Lab is a Korean dessert cafe that opened around the end of last year near Somerset MRT. It’s owned by Korean comedian Shin Jung Hwan and is located in Orchard Shopping Centre where Australian restaurant The House Of Robert Timms used to be. They have 6 different types of Bingsoo (or Bingsu) available on their menu – Milk Bingsoo, Soybean Bingsoo, Green Tea Bingsoo, Mango Bingsoo, Brownie Bingsoo and Yoghurt Bingsoo as well as Korean Toast, Churros and Potato “Mat-tang” (fried sweet potato glazed with sugar and honey and coated with nuts) but their fryer must have been broken the day that we went since both the Churros and Potato Mat-tang were apparently sold out even though the cafe had just opened! They also have different cakes available on their menu but these had also sold out and they have juices, tea, coffee and even several types of beer if you’re feeling thirsty.

We decided to get a small Milk Bingsoo ($15.3) as this size is enough for two people to share. They also have a large size available for $19.30. After ordering at the till we were given a pager so that we could collect our dessert when it was ready. We waited for around 5 minutes and one of the staff kindly brought our dessert to us at our table. The Milk Bingsoo was made from coarse flakes of milk ice and it was topped with red beans and two pieces of red bean mochi. It was nice and the milk flakes were not sweet so the sweet red beans went well with it. They don’t give you condensed milk like in O’ma Spoon. Compared to the red bean milk bingsoo (Patbingsu) in O’ma Spoon, I think that the one in O’ma Spoon is far better as the milk flakes are slightly sweet and have a better flavour and the amount of toppings that they give you is a lot more as they top the milk flakes with sweet red beans, soybean powder, mochi and nuts which makes the bingsu even more yummy! Not to mention it’s also cheaper and they do individual sized bingsu for only $4.90.

Ice Lab is a lot less busy now that all the initial crowds have died down and there is a lot of seating available both in the main part of the cafe as well as in another section upstairs. All the staff are dressed in white lab coats to go along with the theme of the cafe which has a completely white interior. I’ll probably be back to try their churros if it’s not sold out next time but with O’ma Spoon just next door in Somerset 313 I doubt I’ll be getting the bingsoo in Ice Lab again.
