Monster Curry specialises in Japanese homemade curry served with fried meat or seafood. They have a branch of their restaurant on the basement floor of Ion shopping centre on Orchard Road which is quite near to where I live but for those lazy days when I don’t feel like cooking and just want to veg out at home, I get Monster Curry from FoodPanda as it’s only a $3 delivery fee and food arrives super quick within 30 minutes!
They have all the usual favourites to go with their curry including omelette, sausages, karaage (fried chicken), pork katsu (deep fried breaded pork), deep fried breaded prawns, etc. and if you are feeling particularly hungry then you can opt for a combination of them. The last time I got food delivery from them I went for their Cheese Pork Katsu Curry ($16.10) and my hubby went for the Spicy Tori-Karaage Curry ($16.10).
Food arrived as usual piping hot within 30 minutes. I think that the Cheese Pork Katsu Curry is much better value than the Spicy Tori-Karaage Curry as you only get 4 pieces of chicken compared to quite a big pork cutlet covered with a decent amount of cheese. The breaded pork was hot and crispy and the meat was juicy and tender with the mozzarella complementing it well. Monster Curry have 6 different levels of spiciness that you can choose for your curry – 0 flame: not so hot, 1 flame: normal hot, 2 flame: extra hot, 3 flame: very hot, 4 flame: super hot, 5 flame: monster hot. I got the level 2 curry (extra hot) which I think is actually quite mild and you can enjoy the flavour of the curry without having to reach for the water every few minutes. The curry itself has a nice sweet flavour, it’s a good Japanese curry sauce and is not too thick or watery. You also get steamed Japanese rice, Japanese pickles and cabbage with a sesame dressing to go with the curry.
The karaage, although tasty it wasn’t spicy but it had some Japanese mayonnaise drizzled on it. It was freshly cooked and tender and the pieces that had some of the chicken skin still on were crispy. It was nice but it would have been good if there was more of it! The hubby went for the level 5 curry (monster hot) and it was spicier than I imagined it to be, after all it is a Japanese curry and they are usually quite mild, but it wasn’t as spicy as a lot of Thai curries. I think that the spiciness of the level 5 curry drowns out the taste of the curry a bit though.
Overall it was a very enjoyable meal and the service from FoodPanda delivery was excellent.
