La Strada Italian Restaurant Review Shaw Centre Singapore

Part of the Les Amis group of restaurants, La Strada is a casual trattoria in the Shaw Centre that serves home style Italian cuisine. They have an a la carte menu of starters, pastas, risottos, meat and fish mains, desserts as well as a daily 3-course set lunch with coffee or tea for $35++. They also have an extensive range of Italian wines to accompany your meal.

I went there for their set lunch where you can choose from a good selection of appetisers, mains and desserts. I went for the Capesante appetiser (seared scallops, king oyster mushroom, Jerusalem artichoke cream) for an additional $3, the Ravioli main (ricotta, spinach, burnt butter, sage, pine nuts, parmesan) and the Panna Cotta (goat’s milk, Madagascar vanilla, honey, walnut) for dessert. My friend chose the Zuppa appetiser (Tuscan chickpea & kale soup, chicken broth, aromatic vegetables, parmesan), Agnello main (braised lamb shank, artichokes, crusty bread) and the Limoncello Tiramisu (lemon liqueur, white chocolate, citrus, passionfruit) for dessert for an additional $3.

The Capesante starter was nice and the scallops were cooked to perfection with a good sear on the outside and were slightly translucent in the middle. The king oyster mushroom was juicy but the only complaint about this dish is that it could have done with a lot more seasoning.

The ravioli dish for my main was tasty but they were quite heavy-handed with the salt. The spinach and ricotta ravioli were small and delicate and the classic combination of burnt butter, sage, pine nuts and parmesan went well with the ravioli except that the burnt butter wasn’t really burnt butter and was more like melted butter and didn’t have the same nutty flavour.

The Panna Cotta was smooth and creamy with a strong taste of goat’s milk and plenty of honey and walnuts on top to complement the flavour. It was a light dessert and nice to end the meal with but I didn’t really enjoy it that much. Coffee is good there though as I had a nice hot latte afterwards.

My friend enjoyed her set lunch and found everything to be nicely cooked and flavourful.

Overall I enjoyed the meal although there were some obvious flaws to some of the dishes. Service at La Strada was very efficient and the staff were very helpful. Food also came out quickly. It’s a nice place to have a laid back lunch or dinner as we were given a table near the wall by the entrance where there’s a lot of space. I’m not sure if I’ll go back though as the food didn’t quite convince me to return and there are a lot of other good Italian restaurants in Singapore.
