Mad About Sucre Review – Outram Park Singapore

Walking down Teo Hong Road just next to Exit H of Outram Park MRT, you might not notice Mad About Sucre’s inconspicuous shop front and although it may look like any other shop along that road, step inside this cute and cosy patisserie and you’ll be greeted by a display of delightful looking individually handcrafted cakes.

Mad About Sucre believes in providing cakes and confections that are made with less sugar, organic flour and has no artificial flavours, colours or preservatives. Their signature cake is the San Domingue which is a combination of dark chocolate mousse, rum, caramelized plantain and britny crunch. They also have a range of cakes that change seasonally all of which looked very tempting on my visit there yesterday afternoon.

Viburnum

I chose to get one of their seasonal cakes, one that is currently very popular for spring, the Viburnum ($12.80) which is made from pistachios, sour cherry and a pistachio tuile. My friend chose another seasonal cake, the Castile ($12.80), which consists of yoghurt mousse, spring lychee, strawberry, rhubarb, blueberry, honey sponge and a white chocolate feather. We both got the tea ($9.90) that was recommended as a tea pairing for each of our desserts.

Castile

Both the cakes were delicious and beautifully handcrafted. The sour cherry mousse of the Viburnum went well with the sweet pistachio and the crunchy pistachio tuile base and the Castile was fruity, subtley sweet and bursting with flavour. I also really liked the pot of organic green tea that I ordered to accompany my dessert which had hints of apricot and mango in it and smelled absolutely gorgeous.

Service at Mad About Sucre is efficient and informative, mind you we were the only people there on a weekday afternoon so we had the whole place to ourselves. I’d definitely go back again as although they specialise in cakes, they also serve food during lunch and dinner time as well as savoury snacks during tea time which I’d like to try. You can also order beautiful customised cakes from them if you have a special occasion coming up but make sure you order well in advance as there’s a 3 month waiting list!
