Kki Sweets which is on the 2nd level of the Singapore School Of The Arts near Dhoby Ghaut MRT is a Japanese-inspired French cake shop which specialises in mousse cakes. I met a friend there for some cake and a chat last Wednesday afternoon and it was surprisingly quiet. The cafe has a minimalist design and is decked out in wood typical of cafes in Japan and has a very relaxed ambiance.
They offer several different types of mousse cakes as well as cheesecake and the classic French Mont Blanc. They also have a souffle cheesecake but unfortunately this wasn’t available when I was there.
I decided to try their “Ringo” mousse cake ($9.80) which is a green apple mousse cake with caramel glaze and a miso centre and I got an iced green tea ($4.80). The green apple mousse was incredibly light with a subtle green apple flavour and the caramel glaze was not too sweet and complimented the mousse well. There were crushed pistachio nuts at the bottom with a very thin layer of sponge and there was just a hint of miso in the centre which provided a lovely umami taste and contributed to the overall balance of the mousse cake.
I’d be interested to try their Mont Blanc which I’ve heard good things about as well as their souffle cheesecake. They also do larger versions of their cakes which you can order at least 7 days in advance and would be great for birthdays/parties. Also starting later this week they will be serving soup from the Japanese soup restaurant chain Tokyo Soup Stock.
They have a small area in the cafe called “Kki Home” where they sell carefully selected and Kki Home’s own line of homeware products. Also their partner shop “The Little Drom Store” is joined to the cafe and it’s a cute shop that sells toys, pet accessories and a lot of locally designed products that would make great souvenirs and presents for people back home.
