Sacha & Sons New York Delicatessan Review – Mandarin Gallery Orchard Singapore

Located in the Mandarin Gallery on Orchard Road just next to sister restaurant Wild Honey, Sacha & Sons is the only restaurant in Singapore that has New York deli food. They have an all day menu that includes breakfasts, sandwiches, burgers, hotdogs, mains, soups, salads, sides and desserts and they specialise in cured meats and fish including smoked pastrami, corned beef and smoked salmon.

As it’s quite a popular restaurant, I made a reservation online via Chope and got a quiet table for breakfast early last Saturday morning with the hubby. As I was not too hungry I got a Plain Pancake ($7.90) and a Latte ($6.70) and hubby ordered a regular size Classic Deli with Mustard sandwich ($24.20). For the Classic Deli with Mustard sandwich you have a choice of either rye, brioche or gluten-free bread or a bagel and you can choose either a pastrami, corned beef or roast beef filling. Hubby chose to have a bagel with pastrami.

The sandwich came out first, bigger than expected and generously filled with pastrami. The bagels at Sacha & Sons are all hand rolled, boiled and baked fresh in-house. The bagel was covered in sesame seeds, slightly toasted and very chewy like a proper New York-style bagel. The smoked pastrami was tender and flavourful and delicious with the mustard inside the bagel. The sandwich also came with a lightly pickled gherkin and coleslaw on the side.

I really enjoyed my pancake, note the singular “pancake” as you’re only given one so don’t expect a stack of them like you would normally get at a NY deli. However this one pancake is pretty big and enough for a small breakfast. The pancake was light and fluffy, had a good flavour and was slightly crispy at the sides too. Perfect with the not too sweet buttermilk syrup that was served with it. The latte was good too, quite strong and not too milky.

Service at Sacha & Sons is very efficient and attentive and I like the casual New York deli feel of the restaurant. I’ll definitely be back again for their pancakes and also to try some of their New York Jewish deli food such as the Latkes and Matzo Brei.
