Tarte by Cheryl Koh is a delightful little pastry shop selling, yes you guessed it right, tarts! All kinds of delicious, colourful tarts. From seasonal fresh fruit tarts to classic chocolate tarts and some more unusual Asian flavours such as yuzu and pandan. Owned by Les Amis’s pastry chef Cheryl Koh, who was also crowned Asia’s Best Pastry Chef in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2016 awards, tarts are baked fresh daily and are available for takeaway or if you wish to dine-in you can pop over to the Caveau Bar next door and have them served to you there.

Having tried their Houjicha Tart before through UberEats which provide food delivery for Tarte, I went there the other day to dine-in. The hubby and I shared the Pandan Coconut Tart and Tarte Bourdaloue (French Pear Tart) and also got a Yuzu Tart for takeaway.

We first ordered our tarts at Tarte and then sat down in Caveau Bar next door where the waiter brought them to us. Both the Pandan Coconut Tart and Tarte Bourdaloue were delicious. The pastry crust of the tarts was perfectly buttery and flakey with some crunch to it. The pandan kaya (coconut jam) curd in the Pandan Coconut Tart was smooth and the flavour of the pandan was strong and the toasted almond flakes on top of the juicy sweet pear and frangipane filling of the Tarte Bourdaloue was a perfect combination.

The Yuzu Tart that we got for takeaway was probably my favourite out of the ones I’ve tried. The yuzu curd was undoubtedly yuzu flavour and was surprisingly quite tart which I liked a lot and it wasn’t too sweet. It went well with the sweet buttery tart shell and the bitter lime zest on top. Also just to mention that the Houjicha Tart that I had delivered from UberEats was nice but I felt that the flavour of the houjicha (roasted Japanese green tea) was too subtle and would have been much nicer if it was a lot stronger. The filling of the tart though was incredibly smooth but maybe a little too soft as it didn’t hold up well along the journey to my flat.

Service in Tarte/Caveau Bar was great and we had the whole place to ourselves as there was not a soul in sight when we were there on a bank holiday Monday during lunchtime. Tarte also sell large tarts which are great for celebrations starting at $38, the small individual tarts are $9 each.
