The Assembly Ground is a lively and casual place that’s great for meeting up with friends over brunch, dinner or a cup of their specialty coffee. They have a simple menu of appetisers, salads, soup, brunch and dinner main courses as well as desserts.
Brunch here yesterday was enjoyable, reservations were made using Quandoo although it was fairly quiet when we first arrived at around 11.30am but it quickly filled up with groups of friends and families out for a lazy Sunday brunch. I ordered the Fish & Chips ($17.50) from their range of brunch options and a Latte ($5.50). They have a variety of coffees, teas, smoothies and soft drinks on their menu and their coffee is made from coffee blends of Singapore’s Common Man Coffee Roasters and Nylon Coffee Roasters.
The Fish & Chips were ok, I was given a good sized portion of battered haddock but it was overcooked and dry although the batter was light and crunchy. The “chips” that came with it were not the thick cut chips that you would expect in traditional British fish and chips but were actually french fries which is quite a common occurrence when you order fish and chips in Singapore. However they were nice along with the gribiche sauce and coleslaw which wasn’t a pear coleslaw as stated on the menu. The latte there was good, it may be a bit milky for some but it had a good flavour.
Service at The Assembly Ground was polite and efficient and overall it’s a nice place to go to for a catch-up with friends. Food there is not great, I don’t think my friends thought much of the dishes that they had ordered too but I’d go back for the coffee and perhaps their happy hour which is every Sunday to Thurday from 3pm to 8pm where a pint of beer or cider is only $10. They also have daily promotions on their food as well as 50% off appetisers and bar bites during happy hour with a minimum of two beers.
